History, Information, and Value of 1971 Eisenhower Dollar
Value of 1971 Eisenhower Dollar
The first year of the 1971 Eisenhower Dollar was the second most elusive of the series. This is a hard coin to find in higher grades. In fact, PCGS and NGC have never graded a coin higher than MS-66. The general strike of the coin was somewhat weak to begin with. Most coins that will be found in a collection are going to grade somewhere in the AU-58 range. At this grade, the coins will only trade for face value. There were simply too many produced, even in a rare year. One of the most common mistakes of Eisenhower collectors is calling these coins “Silver Dollar.” There are a select few that are produced from 40% silver, but the vast majority are nickel clad coins. If you do own a holdered coin that is graded MS-65 or higher, please contact us as we may be able to make you an offer of more than face value.
The text on the Eisenhower $1 coin reads as follows. Obverse: LIBERTY; Date; IN GOD WE TRUST | Reverse: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA; E PLURIBUS UNUM; ONE DOLLAR.
If the text on your Eisenhower Dollar does not match what is shown above, then your coin may either be fake or a different variety not yet discovered. If you are uncertain about the authenticity of your coin, please contact one of Coin.com’s trusted professional coin dealers to have your coin looked at.
