After no quarter eagles were struck from 1809 through 1820, the denomination returned in 1821 with John Reich’s Capped Head Left design — a smaller, restyled portrait of Liberty circled by stars. The diameter was reduced to 18.5 mm, and again to 18.2 mm in 1829, and the type continued through 1834.
