The Classic Head cent, designed by John Reich, ran from 1808 through 1814 and matches the Classic Head half cent. The obverse shows Liberty facing left with a headband reading LIBERTY and thirteen stars; the reverse uses a continuous wreath around ONE CENT. (Some older references call it the “Turban Head.”)

There are no major rarities in the short series, but the 1809 is the scarcest date, and early issues (1808–1812) are often weakly struck on darker, sometimes porous planchets — the 1814 is typically the best struck and a good type-coin choice. Collectible varieties include the 1810/09 and 1811/0 overdates and the 1814 Plain 4 vs. Crosslet 4. Coins are available Fair through Extremely Fine; sharply struck AU and Mint State pieces are rare. (Note: any “1815” cent is altered — none were struck.)
