History, Information, and Value of 1850 Millard Fillmore Indian Peace Medal
Value of 1850 Millard Fillmore Indian Peace Medal
This Indian Peace medal displays just the head of President Millard Fillmore on the obverse. Fillmore faces to the right and the legend around his head reads, “MILLARD FILLMORE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES 1850.” Just below the bust is the signature of Salathiel Ellis. The reverse displays an Indian and a white settler in front of the American flag. These medals were not struck inside the Mint, but rather contracted out, possibly to a location in New York City. Only 160 small medals were officially struck.
