History, Information, and Value of 1860 New York State Agricultural Society Award Medal
Value of 1860 New York State Agricultural Society Award Medal
The New York State Agricultural Society medal dies were received by the Mint in 1885. As these dies were not created at the Mint, there is a possibility that medals were struck before 1885 at private mints. The obverse displays a woman holding a cornucopia. Behind her are several bales of straw. The legend merely reads, “CERES; TAYLOR, BIRM.” The reverse displays a wreath made up of various fruits and vegetables. The legend at the top reads, “NEW YORK STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.”
