History, Information, and Value of 1926 Peace Dollar
Value of 1926 Peace Silver Dollar
The 1926 Philadelphia Mint peace dollar issue typically has a satin finish and good luster. The fairly low mintage makes it a slightly better date than the earlier Philadelphia dates in the series. Many coins have a golden patina on the surfaces. All 1926 Peace dollars were produced from a master die with a retouched ‘GOD’ on the obverse. Coins in higher grades should be easy to locate. Seek out coins with a good luster and a strong strike.
Lightly Circulated 1926 $1 Coins Are Common: EF and AU can be located, oftentimes inexpensively, though these grades tend to be ignored owing to a steady supply of the date in Mint State grades.
High Grade 1926 Peace Dollars Are Also Plentiful: Name your grade for this date. Consider a MS-65 or MS-66 example for your collection — neither grade is a stopper for this date. As always, look for strong design details and lively luster, and don’t be afraid of a touch of golden toning.
The obverse text on the Peace Dollar reads “Liberty; In God We Trvst (Trust); 1926.” The reverse text on the silver dollar reads “United States of America; E Pluribus Unum; One Dollar; Peace.” The obverse of the coin has a bust of a female facing the left with a pointed crown and flowing hair. The reverse of the Peace Dollar has an eagle sitting on a rock in the center with rays in the background.
